Nancy O'Dell's broadcast career began as a journalist and anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. In the following years, she worked as a the morning news anchor as well as a crime reporter at WCBD-TV. O'Dell's articles in Charleston, about how the Charleston police acted in DUI cases in a manner that was lenient, caused an investigation by State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger instruction for the state's authorities. Ms. O'Dell received recognition from the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Award all media South Carolina.
